How is a unit fitted?
Units are fixed rigidly to an internal part of the vehicle body, or inside the crate or to the equipment itself, using a standard mounting so that every unit in a fleet measures the same way. Fitting and swapping out takes minutes and can be carried out by your own staff.
What does the system measure?
Movement on three axes, sampled up to 500 times per second, with a timestamp on every reading and GPS position recorded every second where available. It is designed for the displacement and acceleration events that affect ride quality and damage equipment, rather than high-frequency vibration analysis.
How is it powered?
Units run from the vehicle’s power supply for continuous monitoring, or on their internal battery for shorter journeys. A self-powered unit for external mounting is in development.
What happens when there is no coverage?
The unit keeps recording. Data is held on the unit until the platform confirms it has been stored, then uploaded when coverage returns. Alerts raised while out of coverage are delivered on reconnection with their original timestamp. Units are able to store several days’ worth of data at maximum sampling rate.
Can I set my own limits?
Yes. Minor, Moderate and Major thresholds are set per project or product from the control panel, and changes reach all active units within 60 seconds.
How long is data kept?
Data is live for 3 months and then archived for a further 21 months. Longer periods are available by contract, for example to match a warranty or a defects period.
Does it replace our existing monitoring?
No. Toltur adds a movement data source to any vehicle or load, including ones with no onboard monitoring today, and can complement your existing data and systems through an API.
Where is the data hosted?
On cloud servers in a region you choose. All communications are encrypted, every unit carries its own certificate, and users sign in with multi-factor authentication.
